Our Story

No trends.
No restocks.
Just things
worth keeping.

Grate & Grain started as a small workshop making cast iron cookware for a local farmers market. The founders believed that the objects you use every day should be worth keeping, not replacing.

Over time the range expanded to include everything needed to set a proper table, stock a kitchen, and outfit an outdoor entertaining space.

Where it started

A farmers market.
A cast iron skillet.

The first products were sand-cast in a rented foundry and sold at a Saturday farmers market in the midwest. Within a year, the waiting list was longer than the available stock.

The trade program grew out of demand from designers who kept placing orders through the consumer shop. It made more sense to build something for them than to keep handling it ad-hoc.

Today the range includes cookware, tableware, and outdoor entertaining essentials. The philosophy hasn’t changed: make things worth keeping.

“The table is where it happens. We make what goes on it.”

What we believe

Quality over trend.

We don’t chase what’s popular. We make things that will still be in your kitchen in twenty years. Materials selected for durability, not price.

Specific about craft.

Sand-cast iron. Hand-thrown stoneware. Linen that softens with wash. We know exactly how each product is made and we talk about it plainly.

Direct and warm.

We write like a knowledgeable friend, not a brand. No hollow superlatives. No restocks for scarcity’s sake. If something’s sold out, it’s sold out.
